Therapy Dog Unit

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office K9 Therapy Unit consists of 12 handlers and 13 dogs, all of which are rescue dogs, and play a crucial role serving as a source of comfort and support for the citizens of Palm Beach County.

K9 Therapy Teams provide positive interactions and help reduce anxiety and stress for victims who have experienced traumatic events. These teams offer comfort and compassion to both child and adult victims and witnesses of traumatic experiences, crimes, or other stressors, and may assist them during interviews, testimonies, or court appearances. When not assisting victims, the Therapy Dog Unit can be seen in different community events around the county.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office K9s have undergone extensive training, evaluation, and certification as therapy K9s, meeting the rigorous standards set forth by organizations such as the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), Paws and Stripes College (Therapy K9 discipline), Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA), and are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC)
